Aaron is a proud Aboriginal man with strong links to his heritage and community. Both Aaron and his partner are employed locally and were concerned about having to move out and find another home in such a difficult rental market.
Aaron reached out to Haven Home Safe (HHS) to see what his housing options were. HHS gave Aaron and his partner appropriate time for sorry business and worked with Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS), to secure a long-term lease for him in the same property, in accordance with one of the principles of the Mana-na woorn-tyeen maar-takoort, Victorian Aboriginal Housing and Homelessness Framework – for Aboriginal people to have access to a system which is responsive to their housing needs and understands their connection to land, culture and family networks.
We are so happy about this great outcome for Aaron and his partner as they build more fond memories in their home.
“I’m very grateful for the chance to be able to live and maintain a tenancy in the house my grandmother lived in for so long. After her passing I didn’t know if I would be able to keep living here but I am very happy I can. I have some great memories at this place with my grandmother.”
