Reimagining the future of Haven Home Safe

CEO Announcement

The Board of Haven Home Safe is delighted to announce the appointment of Trudi Ray as Chief Executive Officer for Haven Home Safe. This follows their endorsement of a new group structure that sees incumbent CEO Andrew Cairns move into the role of Group Chief Executive Officer overseeing initiatives that will support the future growth of the organisation.

“The Board is thrilled that after a thorough and intensive process Trudi Ray has been appointed the next CEO of Haven Home Safe. Her experience, tenacity and authenticity will ensure the direction of Haven Home Safe sees an empowered organisation coming together to deliver great outcomes for clients,” said Damien Tangey, Chair of the HHS Board.

A highly experienced Executive Director, Trudi has been with Haven Home Safe for 19 years, starting as a Supported Assistance worker in 2003 and moving through the ranks to Executive Director Corporate Services and most recently Deputy CEO and Chief Operations Officer. With extensive knowledge of the housing and homeless sector, Trudi is focused on putting clients at the core of service delivery and working in collaboration with like-minded partners to deliver greater outcomes for the most vulnerable in our community.

“I’m incredibly honoured to lead our passionate employees at Haven Home Safe as we continue to work together to end homelessness and housing stress in Victoria. We recognise the need to do more to serve the vulnerable people in our community at a time when homelessness and housing affordability is at crisis point. I’ll be focused on striking the right balance between our commercial ambition and our social justice core so we can build capacity to be an even greater force for good,” said Trudi Ray.

As Group CEO, Andrew will be pursuing a variety of innovative affordable housing solutions that will create new markets, funding streams and partnerships of scale to further build on the work of Haven Home Safe. This approach will ensure a long-term funding model for Haven Home Safe through commercial diversification opportunities that will realise solutions across the entire housing continuum.

“The environment in which we operate is increasingly sophisticated and to meet an increasing need for support from people across Victoria we need to generate more diverse funding opportunities. The organisation has been working for the last 12 months to re-align how we work to place our clients at the core. By setting up this group structure we can maintain that client focus whilst I shift attention to future opportunities and partnerships that will enable us to have even greater impact as a maker of housing affordability,” said Andrew Cairns, incoming Group CEO.

“The Board has shown unanimous support to reimagine the future of Haven Home Safe with this move into a group structure under Andrew’s expertise. This move will allow us to source unique commercial opportunities and see ourselves in a different way, and most importantly, take significant steps to connect more people with more housing options and the support services they need to find and keep a place to call home,” said Mr Tangey.

HHS will recruit a new Chief Operations Officer to replace Trudi and a new Chief Business Services Officer. The new Executive structure is in effect from today’s announcement.
