Christmas has come early for local community housing provider Haven Home Safe, which recently celebrated the completion of a new 22-home development in Mildura. The project was funded by Homes Victoria as part of the Big Housing Build.
The milestone marks the final Big Housing Build development in Haven Home Safe’s pipeline, culminating in a total of 387 new homes delivered across the organisation over the past five years.
The Mildura project includes six one-bedroom, fourteen two-bedroom and two three-bedroom homes. Stage 1 was completed in July, with renters already settling into their new homes.
“As a single parent, having a safe and stable home has been essential for us. Haven Home Safe’s support has given my child a secure environment to grow and has allowed me to focus on working, parenting, and rebuilding stability in our daily life. This housing assistance has helped us regain confidence and stand back on our feet. It has not only provided us with a place to live, but also with peace of mind and hope for the future” said one resident.
Constructed by local builder Mildura Homes, the development prioritises sustainability, comfort and long-term liveability. Each home features rooftop solar, rainwater tanks, induction stovetops, all-electric appliances, a minimum 7-star NatHERS energy efficiency rating, a secure garage and is designed to the National Construction Code, Livable Housing Australia Silver level standard.
Haven Home Safe CEO Trudi Ray said the project reflects the organisation’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable housing tailored to community need.
“I am proud that we have delivered a development that embraces community living in a way that still feels private and quiet. The diversity of housing in this 22-home development — a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes — reflects our determination to meet the needs of the Mildura community.
We have carefully considered residents’ needs to help reduce household costs.
With both Stage 1 and Stage 2 delivered earlier than anticipated, we have been able to house people sooner and take pressure off the wider housing system. It is important to Haven Home Safe that we continue to show up for regional communities like Mildura and deliver housing that truly considers the needs of the people who will call these houses home.”
Haven Home Safe Senior Project Manager, Erin Connolly, joined Mildura Homes Director, Greg Barila and Project Manager, Nik Wade on site to celebrate the handover.
