25 new homes for Horsham

Haven Home Safe has embraced modular building design to deliver 25 new (3 x one-bedroom, 22 x two-bedroom) homes in the regional Victoria town of Horsham.

“We were impressed by the benefits of building with a modular prefabricated system. The speed of construction is much quicker than traditional construction methods, as well as having a lower carbon footprint and being able to reduce the amount of construction waste” said Haven Home Safe CEO Trudi Ray.

This development has been a labor of love with Haven Home Safe bringing together architectural design and build talent of ARKit with their modular building methodology as well as the skill and detail of project managers Sensum.

The homes feature innovative design and community living. They deliver renter comfort with a design that prioritises natural light and energy efficiency including all electric appliances, heat-pump water systems and individual rainwater tanks delivering a seven-star NatHERS rating.

“The ability for modular to provide diversified housing options is a big plus, when considering the majority of social and affordable housing renters are looking for smaller 1 – 2 bedroom homes. Smaller homes also mean reduced energy expenditure for renters which is another benefit, especially given the cost-of-living pressures” said Trudi.

Haven Home Safe is working closely with renters in existing transitional housing properties as well as other local support agencies to tenant the properties with singles, families and couples who are best suited to this style of community living.

“We’re also strong advocates for not just adding homes but building communities that are connected. Placemaking is an approach we apply to all new builds, including here in Horsham, that helps people create a sense of belonging through the safety of their home, connection with their local communities and access to green spaces” added Trudi.

As a community housing provider, Haven Home Safe is passionate about regional investment to ensure that people living across Victoria have access to a safe and secure place to call home.

“We’re incredibly proud of investing in regional Victorian with these innovative new homes that demonstrate how good design in social housing can deliver excellent community outcomes and support regional and rural areas to thrive” said Trudi.

HHS partnered with Homes Victoria to deliver the $10.1million project with $7.3 million contributed by Homes Victoria as part of the Big Housing Build.
