Support for Families at Risk (SFAR)

Beginning a new tenancy can be overwhelming. The Support for Families at Risk (SFAR) program is here for families who need extra help navigating this time of their lives.

Tailored to the families’ needs, the SFAR program works with families to maintain their tenancies as they transition out of homelessness services to independence.

Haven Home Safe Case Managers will support families to set goals.  They will actively liaise, advocate, encourage, and assist families to access support services and to engage confidently with their local community; helping them to achieve their goals.

The SFAR program runs for up to 9 months and is voluntary.

SFAR is designed for families who are about to commence, or are in the early stages of a new tenancy (without the assistance of any homelessness services) and are need additional support navigating:

  • Poor mental health
  • Financial difficulties
  • Family violence
  • Gambling
  • Disability
  • Alcohol & other drugs dependencies
  • Child Protection involvement
  • Legal issues
  • Unemployment
  • Low levels of literacy and numeracy skills
  • Social isolation
