This means our staff will continue to support people experiencing homelessness and in housing crisis but with minimal certainly that as the crisis deepens we will be able to help people to access affordable housing to move out of crisis.
IMBY is short for ‘In My Back Yard’ and the ability to build a small second home up to 60 square meters in suitable backyards has been made easier through the Victorian Government’s Housing Statement which in late 2023 eased planning permit requirements for small second homes (commonly known as granny flats). 
The concept and framework of a 20-minute neighbourhood
This week we were pleased to see the timely launch of the ‘Inside the Front Door’ report. The data covers a seven-year longitudinal study conducted by RMIT University and Lead Researcher, Honorary Professor Guy Johnson, of six high volume homelessness services in Melbourne, including Haven Home Safe’s services in Preston.
If policy makers are serious about addressing violence against women, then the lack of housing options also needs to be addressed. Policy makers cannot keep their ‘heads in the sand’ while victims in crisis bounce from one service to another, each with the same devastating offering: “I’m so sorry but this is all we can do.” It is not good enough.
Haven Home Safe has joined five other not-for-profit organisations to write a letter showing our support of equality and justice ahead of the upcoming referendum.
