Safe Steps was formerly the Women’s Domestic Violence Crisis Service.

Kids Helpline

Free, 24-hour phone and online counselling service for 5 to 25 year olds.

National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service

1800 RESPECT is a national sexual assault, domestic and family violence counselling service for people living in Australia.

Child Protection Emergency Service

Call the Child Protection Emergency Service if you believe a child needs to be protected from abuse or neglect.

The Men’s Referral Service helps men take action to stop using violent or controlling behaviour. The service provides anonymous and confidential telephone counselling.

Mental Health Services


Lifeline helps people experiencing a personal crisis with support and suicide prevention services.

Lifeline also has an online crisis support chat service(link is external). This one-on-one crisis web chat is open every day from 8 pm to 4 am.

Suicide Call Back Service

The Suicide Call Back Service provides free professional telephone and online counselling for anyone feeling suicidal or affected by suicide.

Youth Services

Frontyard Youth Service

Melbourne City Mission’s Frontyard Youth Service is for young people between 12 and 25 years. Services include:

  • Housing support
  • Health services
  • Education and training
  • Family support.

The Victorian Government’s Youth Central website(link is external) is for young people aged 12-25. It has information on a range of topics including study, health, jobs, housing and money.

MensLine Australia

MensLine Australia provides support, information and referrals to men with family and relationship concerns.

Family Relationships Online

The Family Relationships Online website(link is external) has information to help with family issues from building better relationships to dispute resolution. You can find services that may be able to help you. There is also a list of family relationship centres where you can get advice and information – use your postcode to find one near you.

Family Relationship Advice Line

The Family Relationship Advice Line is a national telephone service for families experiencing relationship or separation issues.

  • Ph: 1800 050 321 (free call)
    Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am–8 pm, Saturday, 10 am–4 pm. Closed on Australian public holidays.

Alcohol and drug services

Family Drug Help & Helpline

A service for people concerned about a relative or friend using alcohol or other drugs. The service operates 24 hours, seven days a week. The helpline is staffed by volunteers with experience of alcohol and other drug issues within their family.
