Mallee District Aboriginal Services in partnership with Haven Home Safe have been awarded Runner Up in the Tenant Engagement and Social Inclusion Award at this year’s PowerHousing Australian National Awards. The Awards are designed to showcase individuals and teams who have gone above and beyond and made a significant difference to the lives of tenants, local communities and our nation.
Receiving this award is recognition of the innovative approach of our organisations working side by side to develop a long-term sustainable business model that will enable MDAS to develop an independent, self-determining and growing Aboriginal Community Housing Organisation. Through this, MDAS will be able to offer a range of housing outcomes for their communities, that are determined and defined by their community needs.
The work we are doing presents a model that goes beyond the needs of today and seeks to establish a pipeline of opportunities and outcomes for the MDAS communities that is replicable across other First Nations communities in Victoria and across Australia.
Congratulations to Matt O’Connor and his team’s efforts in developing such positive relationships with MDAS and their tenants; Peter Woods, the Tenancy Manager for the program; Jacki Turfrey who was MDAS CEO at the time and was instrumental in making it happen; and Kylie Davies-Culloden for her work to champion this partnership and project.
