Haven; Home, Safe Board appoints new CEO

Haven; Home, Safe Board appoint new CEO Andrew Cairns

The Board of Haven; Home Safe is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Cairns as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 15 February 2021.

Andrew is a committed Chief Executive Officer with experience in the not-for-profit, profit-for-purpose, and commercial sectors.

He has held senior management roles with several multinational companies, including more than 19 years with the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Group and almost five years as CEO of Community Sector Banking. Andrew is a former Board Director of HHS and is the current Chair of the Western Water Corporation.

Board Chair Damien Tangey said Andrew had an impressive track record and proven ability to deliver growth, shared value, innovation, and strategic outcomes.

“The appointment is very well timed with the State Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build program about to start,” Damien said.

The Big Housing Build program to build 12,000 new homes across Victoria over the next four years is the most significant investment in social housing in a generation.

“This program seeks to close the affordable housing gap and create significant economic stimulus in the post-COVID recovery for this state,” Damien said.

“As one of the largest registered housing associations in Victoria, Haven has both the opportunity and responsibility to be a key participant in the delivery of this program and expand its positive community outcomes as a result.”

Last year Haven; Home, Safe supported more than 13,000 people in crisis and housed over 6500 people across Victoria.

Damien also paid tribute to Deputy CEO Trudi Ray for her executive leadership over the past six weeks.

“We look forward to Andrew and Trudi working together as the key leadership team at Haven,” he said.

“Our new leadership structure will ensure that we can deliver more homes and more supports through more partnerships and more capacity.”
