Preston – Private rental support

Our staff will learn more about you and your housing needs so we can help you make a plan for the best way to maintain a tenancy.

If you are in a private rental property and having trouble paying your rent, our Preston Client Care team are here to help you understand your Private Rental Assistance Program (PRAP) options.

 

You can reach our team over the phone, in person or via email.

The support offered through PRAP may include:

  • One-on-one support to:
    • complete rental applications
    • talk to property managers
    • provide information on how to search for private rentals
  • Life skills training including financial management and budgeting

Financial assistance 

  • Rent in advance
  • Rental arrears
  • Rental subsidies
  • Residential Bonds (where the Bond Loan Scheme is not available)

Assistance with costs associated with moving 

  • Storage costs
  • Removalists
  • Housing establishment costs including utility connection fees, furniture, and white goods
  • Minor property modifications

Eligibility 

  • Over 18 years old
  • Currently homeless or at risk (unable to pay your rent) of experiencing homelessness
  • Residing in or has existing links in the three main areas we operate – Bendigo, Mildura, North-West Melbourne
  • Receiving a stable income (including wages, Centrelink income support, or self-employed)
  • Committed to residing in private rental as a long-term housing option
  • Prepared to follow the Residential Tenancies Act (1997)
