Building back better in regional Victoria

Big Housing Build

Haven Home Safe has been awarded $47 million to build more than 150 new homes for people in need in the first funding round of the State Government’s $5.3 billion Big Housing Build.

Two-thirds of these homes will be built in regional Victoria including 31 homes in Bendigo, 28 in Ballarat, 31 in Horsham, and 17 in Tarneit. The rest will be built in Werribee (34) and Preston (14).

HHS will contribute $12 million towards construction of these properties with building works in Tarneit already underway and others expected to start before the end of this year.

It is estimated that these projects will create more than 500 jobs and support Victoria’s economic recovery.

Quotes attributable HHS Chair Damien Tangey:

“We commend the State Government on its record investment in this the largest social and affordable housing building program in Australia.”

“For over 40 years we have worked with government, public and private partners, and communities with one purpose in mind, to connect people with housing options and the support they need to find and keep a place to call home.”

“Our organisation is on a journey to provide more homes and more supports through greater relationships as a trusted partner of choice.”

Quotes attributable HHS CEO Andrew Cairns:

“The Big Housing Build will change many lives for the better, now and into the future.  It will significantly increase the supply of affordable rental housing and support employment and economic growth in many regional towns and cities.”

“As a key delivery partner of Homes Victoria, we will work closely with government, industry, and communities to maximise social and economic benefits.”

“Getting a job, studying, and actively participating in your community is more achievable with a safe, secure, affordable place to call home.”
