Welcome to Week 24

16 New Dwellings To Change Lives

Welcome to week 24 of 40 Stories in 40 Weeks. This week, we are celebrating a momentous funding announcement – which will enable us to continue achieving our organisation’s strategic goals of ‘More Homes, More Partnerships, More Supports and More Capacity’.

On the 1st of August 2018, the Minister for Consumer Affairs, Marlene Kairouz visited our latest development site on Lobb Street, North Bendigo to announce a $2.78 million grant from Victorian Property Fund would be provided to Haven; Home, Safe for the construction of 16 new dwellings in Flora Hill and North Bendigo.

Shovel ready: Construction of eight units on the Lobb Street site will start before Christmas.

We have seen time and time again, the positive and life-changing outcomes when people who need it the most are provided with the opportunity for stable and safe long-term accommodation.

The significance of the announcement was celebrated by all in attendance. The Federal Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards said affordable housing projects like these “are vital for low income and disadvantaged young people in the Bendigo community”.

The Flora Hill site on Sommerville Street will comprise of four one-bedroom units and four two-bedroom units.

The North Bendigo site on Lobb Street will be home to eight two-bedroom units.  Both sites will be close to the Bendigo CBD, transport, schools, TAFE, community services and employment opportunities.

“It’s about helping vulnerable young people in and around Bendigo get back on their feet by providing stable and safe long-term accommodation where they need it most”. – Minister for Consumer Affairs Marlene Kairouz

Haven; Home, Safe is looking forward to having the projects completed by late 2019.
