Welcome to the Autumn Edition of our
Haven; Home, Safe Tenant Newsletter

Coming into Easter there is plenty of fun, family and free things to do for all ages.
We a proud to announce our Haven; Home, Safe Good Neighbour Awards in time for this very important Victorian wide initiative, our very own Victoria In Bloom finalist and special recognition for one of our dynamic and awesome tenant groups. Read on!

National Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood. Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support; Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.

Congratulations to our own Haven; Home, Safe Good Neighbour Awards winners and nominees, and a big thank you to those who nominated them! After much deliberation (it was extremely difficult to shortlist 5 winners) we are very excited to announce our official winners.

The tenants who were selected are people who help others without being asked; whether it be gardening, running errands, looking after children or simply just inviting their neighbour over for a cuppa and a chat – each one has gone above and beyond.

Brian Wolff – Belmont
Dannielle Campbell – Grovedale
Liz Egan – Geelong
Bill and Lois Giesler – Eaglehawk
Bob Guy – Boronia

The following tenants were also nominated by their neighbours, congratulations for your outstanding contribution to your neighbourhood community.

Anne Bateson – Flora Hill

Sissel Netley – Flora Hill
Graeme Davison – Kyabram
Maria Cristina Alvarado Navarro – Frankston
Wendy Voigt – Whittington
Wilfred Smith – Boronia

Green with Envy

This autumn we’re not only celebrating our Good Neighbours, but also our Green Thumbs.

Congratulations to Irene Mee, from White Hills, who has won the North Division Victoria in Bloom competition for the best Best Small Enclosed/ Container Garden.

Victoria in Bloom recognises and rewards the great work of gardening enthusiasts living in public or community housing. It’s a way of saying thanks to tenants for their hard work to create and maintain amazing gardens that contribute to the communities they live in.

Irene is now in the running for a State Award to be announced at event in Melbourne on 19 April.

Congratulations to The Chandlers!

Our Boronia Tenant Reference Group, THE CHANDLERS were nominated for a Francis Pennington Award for their contribution to their local tenant community and received a Certificate of Recognition.

This award highlights the outstanding voluntary contributions made by individual tenants and tenant groups in public and community housing to improve the lives of others. The Chandlers’ welcome pack for incoming tenants and their ongoing social events are just some of the reasons that they were recognised.

The ‘Moving On’ Program Continues

Moving On is a rent subsidy and support
program for families and single people who have
experienced domestic or family violence.
The aim of Moving On is to increase the supply of
medium to long-term affordable rental housing so
women and their families can access the support
they need to stay safe and get back on their feet.
Our first round of funding saw 34 applicants
successfully housed.
Now with our successful tender for the next
round of funding from the Victorian State
Government, our Moving On Program has been
extended for a further 12 months.

In 2018, Haven; Home, Safe will sublease an additional 39 properties for a period of 12 months, throughout regional Victoria.
