Haven; Home, Safe unequivocally supports marriage equality.  We support marriage equality because we believe it is a basic human right for everyone.   We recognise the right of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) clients, employees and members of our community, to live and work free of prejudice and discrimination. This includes the right to marry the partner of their choice.

As a leading organisation that provides housing advice, advocacy, and accommodation for the vulnerable and most marginalised across Victoria, including LGBTQI people, we believe it is important for us to publicly support marriage equality.  We stand with you and believe in your right to marry and your equal value as members of our community.

And because we do what we say and always strive to make a difference, we have added our voice to the growing call for equal rights for all Australians in an open letter from not-for-profit organisations in support of marriage equality. (

“This is a difficult time for many people who may feel isolated or distressed. We want our LGTBQI community to know that Haven; Home, Safe stands with you at this time. Take care of yourselves.  The Board of HHS supports the Yes vote for marriage equality as we believe we need to move forward and recognise that diversity in our community is a strength.” – HHS Chair Sue Clarke
